DaHo Hollow Spectra Threading Needles
Introducing the DaHo Threading Needles
The DaHo Threading Needles are designed for easy identification by length. Each needle is sized based on its length, allowing you to quickly find the one you need by comparing it to others. Our smallest needle, the 10 to 20# size, measures 5.3″, with each successive needle increasing in length by .1″. The largest needle, for 400 to 500# line, measures 6.5″. This sizing system addresses one of the most common requests we received while developing these needles. Given the materials and size of the needles, using length to distinguish them was the most effective solution.
DaHo Hollow Spectra Threading Needles
Our Hollow Spectra Threading Needles are designed with a hollow interior, excluding the point, allowing monofilament or fluorocarbon line to be inserted. Once the needle is loaded with the mono/fluoro line, it is threaded into the hollow center of the Spectra braid. We recommend inserting the needle and attached line into the Spectra for a distance of 3 to 5 feet to ensure the strongest possible join. Due to the slick surface of the mono/fluoro line, finishing the Spectra end—typically through gluing, serving, crimping, or a combination of these methods—is essential to prevent slippage before the compression pressure within the braid secures the connection.
Choosing the Right Needle Size
The primary measurement of a threading needle is its internal diameter (ID), which indicates the approximate size of the mono/fluoro line that will fit inside. The needle size you need is determined by the size of the line you’re using. Keep in mind that the internal diameter of our needles can vary up to .002″ due to the stainless steel hypodermic tubing manufacturing process. This slight variance is typical and may fluctuate with new shipments. For ease of use, we recommend selecting a needle that is at least .002″ larger than your line size. If you experience any issues with the fit, please contact us and we will work to resolve the problem.
Needle Size Charts
We have created comprehensive PDF and Excel charts that list the recommended needle sizes for various line brands and sizes. These charts include the .002″ variance, ensuring that the selected needle will fit your line. You can view or download these charts by clicking [here]. To return to this page, simply click the back arrow at the top left of each window.
If your line is not listed on our charts, you can typically find the line size on the spool or by checking the manufacturer’s website. It’s important to choose a needle that fits your line and allows for an additional .002″ of space for easier insertion.
Line Size Considerations
If the line is too large for the needle, you may need to trim it, which is less than ideal. Our needles can handle a range of smaller mono/fluoro lines without issue. We offer a variety of commonly used sizes in our standard product lineup, as well as special sizes for unusually small or large lines. While each needle is named according to the typical size range it fits, it’s best to select your needle based on the exact size of your line, as line sizes can vary.
Needle Construction
We use thinner-walled tubing to manufacture our threading needles. This allows the needles to remain as small as possible while providing a larger internal diameter for the line. In this case, thinner is better, and our needles are among the thinnest available.
Needle Point Overview
Below is a close-up of all 13 of our threading needle points, illustrating how they appear when placed on a flat surface or stood upright on their open ends.

Notes:
The Small and Big threading needles in blue above are part of our special sizes group and not included in our standard sets.
* Remember that the ID sizes of our threading needles can vary up to .002″ due to the tube manufacturing process. It is recommended that you select a needle that is at least .002″ larger than your line for ease of use. It can also be difficult to fit an exact size of line into a needle. If you have a problem with your line not fitting into one of our needles, please send us an email and we will analyze and resolve the problem.
